Sri Lankan Government

The Sri Lankan government,Nenasala is a telecentre project funded and maintained by the Government of Sri Lanka. It is a component of the e-Sri Lanka project implemented by the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka. The government has established communication centres under this project with the aim of alleviating poverty, promoting cultural development and maintaining peace,[1] especially targeting rural areas. There are currently 1000 Nenasala centres established in the country.

The Information Communication Technology Agency (ICTA)

The Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) of Sri Lanka is the government’s apex body for ICT development, established under the ICT Act No. 27 of 2003 and amended by Act No. 33 of 2008. Initially formed to implement the World Bank–funded e-Sri Lanka Development Project (2004–2011), ICTA continues to drive national digital transformation by formulating and implementing ICT policies.

Today, ICTA provides national-level guidance and coordination for digital governance, citizen-centric services, e-commerce, cybersecurity, and data protection initiatives. Comprising professionals from the public and private sectors, academia, and NGOs, ICTA’s multidisciplinary team of experts and managers is dedicated to empowering Sri Lanka through ICT and improving the lives of its people.

Nenasala.lk

The Nenasala Project, launched in 2005 by Sri Lanka’s ICT Agency (ICTA), is a nationwide initiative aimed at improving digital literacy and access to information in rural communities. Originally known as the Vishwa Gnana Kendra (VGK) program, it established over 1,000 multi-service centers across the country, offering affordable access to computers, internet, and IT training. These centers, located in libraries, temples, hospitals, and even overseas missions, have empowered citizens, supported education and e-Government services, and contributed significantly to closing the digital divide in Sri Lanka.

Intel Education

Intel Education was a global initiative by Intel to improve learning and teaching through technology, offering programs like Intel Teach for educators and Intel Learn and Intel Easy Steps for youth and adults, focusing on digital literacy, problem-solving, and entrepreneurship. Intel Easy Steps specifically taught basic digital literacy to individuals with little or no computer experience, using practical, activity-based materials to enhance social and economic self-sufficiency.

LK Domain Registry

he LK Domain Registry, established in 1990, is the sole administrator of Sri Lanka’s country code top-level domain “.lk”. It provides domain registration services for individuals and organizations, offering extensions such as .lk, .com.lk, .org.lk, .edu.lk, .hotel.lk, and .web.lk. Committed to advancing Sri Lanka’s Internet infrastructure, the registry also enables domain registrations in Sinhala and Tamil, promoting digital inclusion and a strong national online identity.
